HARTFORD, Conn (WTNH) — Mayor Pedro Segarra announced that Hartford is the only city in Connecticut to be awarded a federal grant under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Adolescent Health (OAH) Evidence-Based Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program.
The $4,999,995 grant, spanning five years, will support a replicated evidence-based Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program (TPP) in Hartford under the blessings and support of the Hartford Health and Human Services Department.
Despite a 20 percent decline in teen births over the past five years, Hartford’s teen birth rate is still higher than the national average. The grant will focus heavily on a partnership with Hartford Public Schools, local service providers and clinics.
