Efficiency with the lure of budget savings has local officials investigating creating a “Combined Regional 911 Dispatch Center.”

Albany County, Rensselaer County and the cities of Troy and Albany are seeking a state grant to fund a study that would change how police, fire and ambulance services respond to calls.

Representatives of the four governments have discussed banding together as a means to cut costs by sharing expenses and supporting each other.

“We’ve been holding informal meetings, We’ve got to fund the study,” Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said.
