Assemblywoman Autumn Burke, D-Inglewood, has tested positive for COVID-19 and will remain in quarantine with her daughter until a doctor instructs her otherwise, she tweeted on Monday.

Her announcement closely follows the Assembly’s new staff restrictions, put in place on Thursday after an employee tested positive for COVID-19. That employee — who wore a face covering at all times, according to an Assembly Rules Committee email — was last in the capitol on June 26.

Burke’s “mask to mask” exposure to the virus happened that same day, she said. She tested positive the following day.

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out with well wishes,” Burke wrote on Monday. “We are fine, but it is of the utmost importance that everyone stay safe, be healthy & remain vigilant.”

The Assembly recorded its first COVID-19 case on June 22, when an employee tested positive after reporting to work in the Capitol the week prior, when lawmakers were debating the state budget. Chief Administrative Officer Debra Gravert said at the time that the Assembly would restrict the number of staff in certain offices to limit the spread of the virus.

The Assembly Rules Committee tightened its essential staff guidelines on Thursday, requiring that no more than one essential employee work in the office at a time.
