Think Etsy, Kickstarter, and Square. The Maker Movement unlocks growth, engages communities, and transforms urban landscapes. The movement is not just crafters at work and trendy DIY businesses. They are small-scale industrial productions that are gaining an economic foothold.

“Makerspaces are also increasingly being seen as a hotbed for entrepreneurship,” according to the National League of Cities (NLC), which just released the report, How Cities Can Grow the Maker Movement.

NLC profiles the policies supporting the Maker Movement in cities like Albuquerque, N.M., Austin, Texas, Louisville, Ky., Madison, Wis. and others, and discusses strategies that can help local governments incubate these market opportunities in their communities.
