APPLETON — A new app allows city park-goers to report park damage such as graffiti, a broken bench or a burned out light while on the go.

Heath Anderson, GIS developer for Appleton’s Community and Economic Development Department, said the idea to create the app stemmed from a meeting with parks and recreation staff. The app was designed to streamline the process of damage reports, and residents have already started to use it.

“Rather than making them go to clerical staff, they go directly to the supervisor who addresses the issue,” Anderson said of the reports.

Residents can access the app on the city’s website or by scanning the QR code on the new signs posted at Erb, Pierce, Memorial and Telulah parks. Users need to include the date the damage was seen, the type of damage and can include a photo, their name and an email address to receive a follow-up message when damages are fixed. If the app is well-used, the other parks will also get signs, Anderson said.
