Solacom Offers 911 Wireless Caller Location to PSAPs
Device-based location information is now available from many popular smartphones so PSAPs can pinpoint the location of a 911 wireless caller.
CHICAGO -- Solacom announced that due to recent technology changes that made device-based location data available to PSAPs, customers with Guardian 9-1-1 Call Handling can learn the location of a wireless caller.
Accurately Locating a 911 Wireless Caller
Recently, Apple announced that device-based location information from new iOS 12 smartphones will be available to PSAPs later this year. Google then announced that device-based location data provided by Android phones will also be available to PSAPs.
With both wireless device operating systems sharing the data, PSAPs can now pinpoint the location of wireless 9-1-1 calls from smartphones across the country. The data will be available through the RapidSOS NG911 Clearinghouse.

Guardian 9-1-1 Call Handling includes a feature that allows it to query third-party databases to access device-based location information from smartphones when a 911 call is made. It can be configured to query the NG911 Clearinghouse from RapidSOS for device-based location data.
Device-based location data from wireless devices will be displayed as supplemental data and will not replace existing Automatic Location Information (ALI) data presented by the Guardian 9-1-1 Call Handling solution.
